Canadian Institue Of Planners

Shaping our Communities
Sustaining Canada's Future.

Vancouver, British Columbia

The Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) works on behalf of over 6,300 planning professionals nationally, and has served as the voice of Canada’s planning community since 1919.

Planning addresses the use of land, resources, facilities and services in ways that secure the physical, economic and social efficiency, health and well-being of urban and rural communities. Our members work in both the public service and the private sector, across fields such as land use planning, environmental resource management, land development, heritage conservation, social planning, transportation planning, and economic development.

CIP advocates for planners nationally and internationally, and provides membership services that help planners advance in their careers. The Institute is a member-based organization with its management complemented by volunteers, who support and contribute to our activities on various levels.

CIP receives its strategic direction from its Board of Directors, who are elected volunteers from the planning profession. In 2016, CIP revised its governance structure to satisfy the provisions of the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act.

CIP's Bylaws were confirmed by special resolution of the membership.

Board Meeting minutes can be accessed by logging in to the Members-only site under Board Documents.
