CIP Student Representative
The position for the Student Representative on Council is filled by an annual election, held by our student members. The Student Representative attends all Council Meetings and is a voting member of Council. Student Rep Job Description
Goals:
- Provide CIP Council a timely, relevant and valuable student perspective on planning issues.
- Represent planning students' interests at CIP Council.
- Promote communication between planning students, planning professionals, and CIP Council.
Purpose:
The primary purpose of the CIP Student Representative position is to maintain ongoing, meaningful communication between the CIP Council, the Canadian Association of Planning Students (CAPS), and Canadian planning students at large.
CIP Council Composition:
The CIP Council consists of the President, Vice-President, a student representative (voted by student members of CIP), affiliate representatives (one each from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and the Atlantic Provinces), a Fellows representative, and an ACUPP representative.
Duties:
- Maintain ongoing communication between the Council, CAPS, and planning students on matters of mutual concern and interest.
- Attend CIP Council meetings.
- Develop methods for promoting the goal of CIP membership, as a means of advancing the profession.
- Develop methods for promoting the CIP strategic plan, as a means of advancing the profession.
- Encourage the inclusion of sessions at national, regional and chapter conferences relevant to planning students.
- Encourage planning schools to make greater use of CIP members in courses dealing with planning practice.
- Facilitate information sharing among student members.
- Prepare monthly updates for inclusion in the student e-newsletter, Plan-2-Plan.
- Prepare "Learning Curve" article for inclusion in Plan Canada.
- Promote student research by encouraging publishing opportunities in Plan Canada.
Transition Report:
Each outgoing Student Representative is responsible for providing a transition report to the incoming Student Representative to help guide future direction of the position.
