Land Use Planning & Policy (LUPP) works closely with a variety of stakeholders and regional neighbours to develop long-range plans and effectively administer associated implementation processes to ensure Calgary's growth is well-managed and supports the values and priorities of all citizens.

Responsibilities

We are recruiting a Planner to join our team of dedicated planning professionals in the City-Wide Planning and Design division to complete a Heritage project by year end in 2013. Reporting to the Co-ordinator Urban Design & Heritage, this position plays a key role in implementing the Calgary Heritage Strategy to "Identify, Protect and Manage" Calgary's historic resources. It offers significant professional opportunities for an individual demonstrating strong planning and teamwork abilities.

Primary duties include:

  • Work directly with the Council-appointed Calgary Heritage Authority and other stakeholders to implement Council recommendations and to establish the Calgary Heritage Authority as an independent, effective, citizen body to support historic preservation in Calgary.
  • Complete research, analysis, stakeholder engagement, report writing and public presentations.
  • Collaborate with the Calgary Heritage Authority to scope the project in detail.
  • Prepare Requests for Proposals to engage consultants as required.

Qualifications

The successful applicants will possess a Planning degree recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) with a minimum three years of professional planning experience, OR a related degree with a minimum four years of related professional experience. Eligibility for membership in a Canadian Association of Planning is required.
