In partnership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute, the Ontario Farmland Trust is presenting workshops across the Greater Golden Horseshoe, inviting planners to learn about farmland protection and regional food system development.
The Farmland Trust has developed a guide for municipal planning and development that explores: updating Official Plans and zoning bylaws, coordinating Agricultural Advisory Committees, investing in rural capacity and connecting urban markets with local farms. The workshops will review the guide and food planning issues in Ontario and provide the opportunity to apply specific material to individual contexts in small group settings with expert facilitators allowing participants to share experiences that will drive further education and research.
2:00 – 2:15pm registration, coffee, tea and light refreshments
2:15 – 2:30pm introduction for the guide by Ontario Farmland Trust
2:30 – 3:15pm presentation of food system planning by Margaret Walton
3:15 – 3:30pm break
3:30 – 4:00pm small break-out groups to discuss specific issues
4:00 – 4:30pm sharing of discussion and feedback Public and private planners from all tiers; municipal, county and provincial, are invited. Audiences will be limited to 24 people to keep small group sessions intimate and productive.
Local OMAFRA representatives will be invited to join in the discussion. OFT and OPPI are offering innovative tools to Planners working in, or interested in, the field of Regional Food Systems Planning. The workshops will be a venue for teaching, applying new knowledge, sharing relevant experience and gathering information for further research.
