Your knowledge of planning principles is solid.........and one of your passions is to ensure great cities like Edmonton have affordable housing. Well, you're in luck, 'cause that describes who we're looking for.
This position will be responsible for helping ensure the supply of affordable housing in Edmonton, primarily through the City's Cornerstones program. You'll be the face of the Edmonton's main affordable housing program.............doing everything from reviewing applications for funding, sharing information about the Program, assisting applicants to fill out their project funding applications, to making sure that all necessary information including land use, development permit and project uses are in conformity with the Cornerstones guidelines and all internal expert reviews are in order.
Specific duties include
• Providing professional planning support to the implementation of the City's Cornerstones affordable housing program through provision of information to prospective applicants
• Providing information, clarifications, planning and socio-economic data including demographic and housing statistics as well as income, rental rate and vacancy rate information to prospective applicants as necessary
• Discussing (both verbally and in writing) the alternative streams of Cornerstones projects with clients
• Performing information and data analysis to determine the funding eligibility of all proposed affordable housing projects, including coordination of internal expert review of the information provided by the project proponents
• Working as a member of a project team that will prepare funding recommendations for sign-off
• Attending meetings with communities, community-based agencies and other orders of the government regarding low-income, affordable and supportive housing research, trends, needs and supply
• Providing expert opinion and information as necessary.
• Attending interdepartmental meetings and present information on affordable housing
• Conducting site visits and perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning or a related degree, a Master's degree is preferred
• A minimum of (2) years related planning experience including land use or municipal planning or affordable housing. Candidates with less than 2 years experience may be considered at the Opportunity Concept level
• Knowledge of issues and practices related to affordable housing
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of industrial, urban, and regional planning as well as applicable legislation and regulatory requirements in Alberta
• Excellent ability to express ideas effectively orally and in writing
• Strong problem solving and consensus building skills
• Excellent customer service skills, conflict resolution skills, presentation skills, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a multi-disciplinary team environment
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office
• Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners is desirable
• Possession of a valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operators License (or Operators Licensing equivalent recognized by the Operators Licensing and Vehicle Control Regulation, Alta.Reg.320/2002) and eligibility to obtain a City drivers permit
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program
Salary Range: 21M, Salary Grade: 030, $37.128 - $46.913 (Hourly), $2,506.14 - $3,166.63 (Bi-Weekly), $65,410.25 - $82,648.98 (Annually). Opportunity Concept: 21A, 013, $27.299 - $35.547 (Hourly), $1,842.68 - $2,399.42 (Bi-Weekly), $48,094.01 - $62,624.93 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton. This union contract is currently under negotiation.
