Brief Biography

As a private consultant for over 25 years, Gordon completed over 150 planning and design projects for a variety of clients including municipal, provincial and federal governments, schools, universities and other institutions, and a range of developers and other private clients throughout Canada and in Botswana, Africa and Valdez, Alaska.  As the Director of Planning with the Department of Municipal Affairs and Housing in Nova Scotia, Gordon motivated and led the introduction of mandatory minimum planning requirements for municipalities, which is considered the most significant change to provincial planning legislation in over 20 years. He has provided direct support for the development of regulations related to the Coastal Protection Act that will set minimum building elevations and coastal erosion setbacks for the province. In addition, he has developed and led the Municipal Flood Line Mapping Project which has the goal of completing flood line maps incorporating climate change considerations for the entire province. He provides direct support to the Land Titles Clarification Initiative which is working to provide clear title to properties in African Nova Scotian communities throughout the province.
