Learn about Whistler’s latest accessibility projects and how accessibility benefits everyone. The tour will start with a presentation on the Resort Municipality of Whistler’s interactive map and how it is used to inventory, maintain and bring awareness to the accessible infrastructure within the main Whistler Village. Participants will then travel to Whistler Olympic Plaza to learn about managing accessible infrastructure and opportunities for improvements when making capital investments. We will explore the site’s design rationale and how development included consideration of everyone: patrons, staff and performers. We will visit the inclusive play area designed for children and parents of all abilities for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. At the Gateway Loop, participants will see how the facility works better for everyone, and hear about accessibility of the Whistler transit system and plans for improvement. The tour will conclude at the base of the mountain to learn about the emerging adaptive mountain biking and hiking market, adaptive skiing, snowboarding, freeride and race programs, and accommodating all guests on both Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains.
