International Approaches to Healthy Communities

On the occasion of World Town Planning Day, November , CIP hosted the webinar "International Approaches to Healthy Communities." 

With the increasingly complex issues affecting communities globally, the ties between community design and health statua are ever more salient. What are planners and organizations doing worldwide to put human and environmental health into the core of city building? This webinar examines international programs and projects that target community health and improvement. 

Speakers: 

Lindsay Fischer RPP, MCIP, Perkins Eastman 
Lindsay Fischer is a Design Strategist at Perkins Eastman. As a professionally-trained Urban Planner, Fischer works in the realm of placemaking, urban design, and design strategy. Driven by a desire to improve the lives of individuals who inhabit our cities. Fischer holds a Master of Planning from the University of Calgary and a Master of Science in Urban Placemaking and Management from the Pratt Institute. 

Juma Assiago, UN Habitat
Juma Assiago is the coordinator of the Safer Cities Programme at UN-Habitat. An urbanist, with a Master of Science degree in Sustainable Urban Development from Oxford University, he has 22 years of work experience supporting cities in the development and implementation of city safety strategies. 

Michael Chang MRTPI, HonMFPH, UK Department of Health and Social Care
Michael is a Chatered Town Planner and Honorary Member of the UK Faculty of Public Health. He initiated and led the Town and Country Planning Association's Reuniting Health with Planning programme producing publications on the practice of planning healthy places. Currently as Programme Manager at the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities in the UK Department of Health and Social Care, he provides expert planning input across policy subjects. He is a Visiting Fellow at the WHO Collaborating Centre for Healthy Urban Environments and in the Urban Land Institute's Health Leader Network for 2021.
