GENERATION 2019 Keynote- Dr. Hayden King

Hayden King is an Anishinaabe writer, educator and researcher from Beausoleil First Nation on Gchi'mnissing in Huronia, Ontario. Dr. King is the Executive Director of Yellowhead Institute and Advisor to the Dean of Arts on Indigenous Education at Ryerson University. His research and analysis on land use in treaty contexts is published widely. 
Jeff Hamm, a professional planner with more than thirty years of experience, presented viewers with a deeply moving reflection on his personal experience working with the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and finished with a call for planners to be strong allies with their Indigenous partners, starting simply by listening. 
Dana Kripki and Gilles Dorval from the City of Saskatoon shared their work on ayisīnowak: A Communications Guide, winner of CIP's award for Planning excellence in Reconciliation. The pair provided illuminating examples and best practices from the guide, noting in particular that good communication, "face to face", is needed to develop lasting relationships.

This webinar introduced attendees to factors affecting housing affordability in Canada, as well as best practices, from planning experts across Canada.
PEG(mypeg.ca) is Winnipeg's community indicator system, measuring the health and well-being of the community year over year-in ways that count. Is it through Peg that Winnipeggers learn how their lives, their neighbourhoods, and their city is changing. This presentation featured the benefits of the new platform for gathering and communicating data and highlighted how the simplicity of the tool allows it to be replicated, customized, and implemented both at the local level, or scaled-up to the global level.
