Reporting to the Manager Long Range Planning and Sustainability, the primary responsibilities of this role include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assisting with gathering and analyzing data for various long-range planning and sustainability projects (e.g. local area plan, climate action, adaptation planning, transportation planning);<\/li>\n<li>Supporting the development of community engagement strategies for long-range planning, climate change, and sustainability initiatives (e.g. energy efficiency rebate programs, local area plan);<\/li>\n<li>Under the supervision of the manager, drafting reports, briefing memos, and other correspondence on long-range planning, climate change, and sustainability projects;<\/li>\n<li>Conducting data and policy analysis to inform policy recommendations;<\/li>\n<li>Collaborating with various internal departments, under the Manager&#8217;s guidance, to build effective working relationships;<\/li>\n<li>Assisting with creating informative and visual materials for public distribution and update planning project information on the CVRD website;<\/li>\n<li>Supporting staff with project scoping and execution;<\/li>\n<li>Assisting in researching and preparing grant applications (e.g. active transportation, climate initiatives);<\/li>\n<li>Contributing to the implementation of ongoing climate change programs and initiatives;<\/li>\n<li>Performing other duties as assigned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Our ideal candidate is:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Currently enrolled in a four-year undergraduate degree program in Planning, or a Master\u2019s degree program in Planning, with at least one year of full-time studies completed;<\/li>\n<li>An analytical and strategic thinker with strong problem-solving, project management, business planning, and risk management skills;<\/li>\n<li>A strong communicator with the ability to foster collaborative working relationships and provide effective messaging verbally and in writing;<\/li>\n<li>Organized with the ability to manage a workload independently, ensuring accountability for deliverables while adhering to work plans and timelines;<\/li>\n<li>Familiar with provincial legislation relevant to the role, including the Local Government Act and the Climate Change Accountability Act;<\/li>\n<li>Familiar with local government operations, planning regulations and tools including Official Community Plans, zoning bylaws, and the procedures for bylaw amendments;<\/li>\n<li>Aware of provincial, regional, and corporate programs, policies, and best practices concerning environmental, regional planning, and corporate strategic planning matters;<\/li>\n<li>Familiar with sustainability principles, including nature-based solutions, equity, and climate change mitigation and adaptation;<\/li>\n<li>A strong researcher with the ability to evaluate basic public datasets and perform essential data analysis tasks, linking data and policy to provide a broader context;<\/li>\n<li>An advanced user of Microsoft Office 365 with strong skills in Adobe Acrobat and SharePoint.<\/li>\n<li>A valid BC Class 5 driver\u2019s license is required for this role.
