The Town of Stony Plain Planning & Infrastructure department is currently recruiting for a temporary Junior Planner. Under the supervision of the Manager of Planning and Development, this position is responsible for supporting municipal planning projects, strategies, and initiatives and the processing of planning and development applications and inquiries (planning bylaws, subdivisions, development permits, land development inquiries, etc.). The Junior Planner provides information to developers, landowners, and the public, conducts research and analysis, creates and delivers maps and presentations, prepares planning documents and related material, and develops and executes public participation strategies.
The ideal candidate for this position will have a post-secondary degree in Planning or a related field. Previous planning experience is not required but would be considered an asset. General knowledge of the Alberta planning framework along with familiarity of the MGA, Land Use Bylaws, Safety Codes Act, and Permit Regulations is required. The successful incumbent will have robust customer service, facilitation, and communication skills in addition to the ability to take initiative, manage their time, and remain organized. This role requires some flexibility to accommodate occasional attendance at evening and weekend meetings and events. Eligibility for membership with APPI or another Provincial and Territorial Institutes and Associations (PTIAs) representing the Planning Profession in Canada and a valid Class 5 Driver’s license is required.
This is a temporary 1-year position. Based on a 35-hour work week, the annual salary range is $60,684 – $77,208. This is an in-office position with the option to participate in the Town’s flexible work program after successful completion of the probationary period.
