The Opportunity
Urbanics is seeking a Senior Planner to lead urban planning projects across British Columbia, Alberta and other regions. This role is ideal for a seasoned planner who is confident managing complex files and delivering high-quality work for both public and private sector clients.
What You’ll Do
- Lead complex planning studies for public and private sector clients across Western Canada and manage projects from initiation through delivery.
- Provide senior-level planning and advisory to public and private sector clients, including advising on land use strategy, policy, market studies (commercial demand studies), transportation planning, supply chain analysis, housing studies, feasibility studies, and economic studies.
- Prepare and review high-quality planning deliverables including planning reports, policy analysis, land use rationale, briefing materials, and presentations.
- Develop and deliver Council and committee presentations, including attending meetings and representing client interests with professionalism and clarity.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, supporting proposal development, scopes of work, and business development opportunities.
- Manage multiple concurrent files with strong time and priority management, ensuring deadlines, budgets, and quality expectations are consistently met.
What You’ll Bring
- 10+ years of professional planning experience, preferably with a background in consulting, report writing, and preparing/conducting Council presentations.
- Degree in urban planning, transportation, project management, financial modelling, or a related discipline (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) is considered an asset.
- Registered Professional Planner with Planning Institute and Membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners is considered an asset.
- Experience in transportation planning, land economics, market context, or feasibility work related to urban planning.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
