Transportation master plans play a significant role in proactive support for transportation needs. We can improve upon this approach by better accounting for the health (and subsequent economic) impacts of these plans. Transportation networks are also a key factor in placemaking. We have the ability to nurture places of social connection, which can have a positive impact on health through the reduction of physical and mental/social isolation. Economic or financial impacts often speak the loudest in the decision-making process. Municipalities are asking, “What’s the best value for spending the limited funds we have available?” So how can we bring health into the financial equation?
