Canadians are facing an evolving array of gradual and sudden economic, environmental, and social challenges, with disproportionate consequences across our geography and demographic groups. Having experienced a series of interconnected global, country-wide, and local crises, we have learned several lessons that directly apply to Canada’s institutions and systems. How can planners help this country be resilient?
Disruptions are rarely unforeseen. We’re aware of risk factors and we can plan and prepare for a range of scenarios. Planners are in positions to identify scenarios, connect across disciplines, and provide leadership on risk mitigation and disaster resiliency. How are planners supporting communities to prepare for, respond to, and adapt to complex challenges?
