On behalf of the Canadian Institute of Planners, congratulations on a very successful PLACE21 – Canada’s national student planning and geography conference.

When CIP first stepped forward to help provide the administrative backing for this conference, none of us knew exactly what our world would look like in November 2021; whether there would be in-person sessions, or if people would have the capacity to volunteer their time. While this conference took place as an online event (hopefully the last!), it was nevertheless engaging and inspiring.

I would like to first congratulate the PLACE21 organizing committee who have put in innumerable hours over the last two years – this event would not have been possible without your vision and dedication. Our sincere thanks to the speakers, moderators, volunteers, and all delegates who have contributed to the success of this virtual event. To the sponsors of PLACE21, our gratitude goes out to you for helping to invest in our future professional planners.

How apt it is that the theme of the conference is “Emerge – New Ideas, Practices & Connections”, as CIP has witnessed this event grow and flourish over the last several months, attracting students and professionals from across Canada, and from around the world. This has been a great conference and we’re so pleased to have been a part of it!

Congratulations and best wishes to all students in your future career in the planning profession.

Sincerely,

Dan Huang RPP, MCIP
