The Alliance of Planning Professions in Canada Forum (PAF) was established in 2017 as a framework to collaborate, share information, recommend action on matters of national and regional significance, and network as a community of practice to advance the planning profession in Canada.

PAF members include the Presidents and Chairs of CIP and the Provincial or Territorial Institutes or Associations (PTIAs), the Standards Committee, and the Professional Standards Board (PSB). The senior staff of these organizations attend as observers.

PAF is intended to be a communication conduit between the organizations. It is not a decision-making body; however, it is recognized that PAF should be action-based in the form of strategic thinking, research, defining solution options, and making recommendations. Any matters requiring a decision are referred to the Boards or Councils for individual consideration and ratification.

The Joint Administrators Group (JAG) is a collaborative advisory and coordinating body established by the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), Professional and Territorial Institutes and Associations (PTIA), and the Professional Standards Board (PSB) to share information and seek solutions to operational issues of mutual concern, with a view to better aligning and streamlining policies, practices, and procedures through ongoing dialogue, collaboration, and coordination at a senior staff and administrative level.

The Professional Standards Committee for the Planning Profession in Canada (SC) was established in 2012 to serve as a joint policy-making body with responsibility to set standards as well as the oversight, maintenance, and revision for the planning profession’s certification, accreditation, and ethical standards.

The SC is volunteer-based, comprised of one professional member from each of the Signatory Parties. The Signatory Parties are the Provincial and Territorial Institutes and Associations (PTIA) (except OUQ) and the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP).

All policy recommendations made by the SC must receive the unanimous support of the Signatory Parties. The Professional Standards Board for the Planning Profession in Canada (PSB) is responsible for the administration of the professional, accreditation, and ethical standards and certification as established.

The CIP/ICU Planning Student Trust Fund (CIP-PSTF) is the Canadian planning profession’s national charity, providing a scholarship and bursary program to students in accredited planning programs in Canada. Although an independently incorporated charity, CIP provides all staffing support required for the CIP-PSTF’s governance, financial, fundraising, and communications needs at no cost. CIP also provides core funding to the organization for distribution through its scholarships and bursaries, as well as to cover overhead expenses.
