OTTAWA, Ontario – September 7, 2022 – As students head back to school, the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) is pleased to offer free membership to all students living and studying in Canada.

Since 2018, CIP has offered free membership to students in accredited Canadian planning programs. With the release of the new five-year strategic plan, CIP further expands its commitment to supporting the next generation of planners throughout their careers, as well as increasing awareness and understanding of the profession.

“In the last five years, student membership in CIP has grown by 80% to over 1,200 in 2021,” said Beth McMahon, CEO. “Our student members are highly valued and recognized for bringing fresh perspectives and new ideas to the Institute.”

With a wide range of pathways into the profession, CIP is also proactively seeking to ensure that students are aware of their options to pursue careers in planning.

“Planning is a great career choice with many interesting opportunities across Canada and abroad,” stated Ms. McMahon. “For those students who are looking for meaningful work that contributes to the well-being of urban and rural communities, planning really should be on their radars.”

The benefits of CIP student membership are numerous, including a subscription to Plan Canada magazine, student newsletters, access to job and internship postings,free online educational opportunities, and new, for November 2022 – the Planning Together: Student Symposium – a free online event showcasing student research and projects.
