POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Manager of Planning and Development, the Student Planner will assist the Planning staff concerning long-range projects and current development applications. The Student Planner will be expected to assist other staff in the Planning & Development Department on various projects and activities as well as being responsible for day-to-day planning duties such as coordinating meetings, research, and assisting the public.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
•Grade 12 or in a post-secondary program
•Educational interest in Community or Urban Planning, Urban Geography, Architecture or other related discipline
•Experience working with indigenous communities/people considered an asset
•Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
REQUIREMENTS
•Must be returning to school in the fall
•Criminal Record Check with results acceptable to WFN
•Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and Acceptable Driver’s Abstract
•Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES
• Assist with a variety of planning and development related duties such as long range planning projects, development applications & proposals, policy and law development and other duties as required
• Attend and support Planning & Development staff at a variety of meetings in order to gain a better understanding of the sub-departments within the organization
• Responding to the public, Member and agency inquiries by providing information and education regarding zoning and land use regulations, and WFN laws and policies
• Assist with Public Consultation preparation and events
• Preparation of land use referrals and Chief and Council reports by researching, gathering information and drafting material for Planning staff review
• Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards, and procedures and as assigned by the Manager of Planning & Development
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
•Demonstrates strong administrative skills and has the ability to set priorities and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
•Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
•Demonstrates a high level of customer service and displays a positive demeanor
•Intermediate ability in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Publisher; moderate ability working with Adobe forms
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Proven conflict management skills
•Strong organizational skills, capacity to work under pressure and meets deadlines
•Ability to plan and organize a variety of events and functions
•Knowledge of WFN programs and services
•Ability to work well as a team and show initiative
