The Land Planning Branch collaborates with First Nations, Yukon communities and other government agencies to manage land use in a sustainable and orderly way.

As the Manager of the Community Land Use Planning team, this position is responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of local area planning and zoning initiatives.  The Manager is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of rural and community local area plans and zoning in accordance with Yukon government goals and First Nation Final Settlement and Self Government Agreements, which involves advising and coordinating participation of Yukon government departments to achieve Yukon government goals and facilitate informed decision making by the Minister or Cabinet.

The Manager of Community and Land Use Planning supervises Land Use Planners who collaborate with First Nations counterparts, local advisory councils or ad hoc planning and zoning steering committees comprised of local citizens and First Nations representatives, the Zoning Appeal Board, Renewable Resources Councils, and the public throughout the development and implementation of local area plans. The Manager also supervises Development Officers who issue development permits and zoning amendment applications for communities throughout Yukon.

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree in Planning or a related discipline such as Geography, Resource Management, Public Administration, Environmental Science (Graduate degree is preferable)
  • Experience in land or resource planning, including negotiations
  • Experience providing advice and options to senior management, preferably in a government setting
  • Experience managing financial and human resources, including developing staff, leading teams with diverse skills, mentoring and performance management
  • Experience working with First Nation Final Agreements will be considered as asset
  • Candidates who have post-secondary education combined with significant experience in the above-mentioned demonstrated abilities may be equally considered.
