This session will explore transformative strategies for designing transit-oriented communities in North America that prioritize people over cars. As cities face increasing pressure from urban sprawl and traffic congestion, we have a golden opportunity to reimagine urban spaces that promote walkability, accessibility, and vibrant public life. Drawing inspiration from international case studies, we will examine best practices and innovative design principles that can inform our approach to creating sustainable and inclusive neighbourhoods. In London, England, the revitalization of King’s Cross is a remarkable example of how a former industrial area can be transformed into a thriving urban hub. We will discuss the planning principles that guided this transformation. In Banpo-dong, Seoul, South Korea, our second case study focuses on South Korea’s approach to balancing high-density development with charming traditional elements and the integration of green spaces. A third international case study will round out the examples.
