This session will update participants on Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Agribusiness policies and guidelines related to planning for agriculture (including the agricultural systems approach, agricultural impact assessments, and the permitted uses guidelines). The presenters will share insights regarding the balance between land-use planning needs and Ontario’s farmland and agri-food sector, address common misconceptions about the agricultural land base, and provide an overview of recent changes to agricultural land use planning policies. In discussing Ontario-specific approaches to planning for agriculture, presenters will highlight lessons learned and how they may apply to other jurisdictions. Participants will have an opportunity to share experiences and approaches from across Canada.
