Opening Remarks/Elder, Jennifer David & Notorious Cree
All Our Relations: from Disconnection to Connection with Jennifer David
Colonization has disconnected Indigenous peoples (often violently), from our land, from our responsibilities, from our names and our families, from our cultures and ourselves. But colonization has disconnected all of us from each other. How do we re-connect? By understanding Indigenous worldviews; by re-establishing right relationships; and by understanding we are all related. By the end of this presentation, you will be able to: Explain the importance of identifying whose land you are on, and the implications, Recognize some distinctive cultural values and traditional beliefs of Indigenous peoples and how they differ from standard Western values and worldviews, Understand the concept of wahkohtowin—a Cree term about interconnectedness and kinship
