In 2023, Sa̱nala Planning engaged in a project to explore the creation of a pathway to PIBC membership for Indigenous Planners. This work was carried out in partnership with the PIBC’s Planning Practice and Reconciliation Committee’s (PPRC) and relied upon the experience and expertise of an Indigenous Advisory Committee of diverse Indigenous planners. A series of recommendations were developed to support deepening this exploration and to encourage PIBC and CIP to create safer, more inclusive spaces and systems for Indigenous people and planners. Sa̱nala Planning is honoured to bring together several Indigenous and allied planners to share their experiences, insights, and lessons learned from this recent exploration of what it means to decolonize the field of professional planning.
