Moving between the public and private sectors can be daunting and frustrating but can also be exciting and rewarding. Planners hear stories about both roles, including the transition between sectors. There are questions about expectations, promotions, salaries, time off, council meetings, billable time, relationships with clients and the community, and recently, the importance of a work-life balance. While work in both sectors is fundamentally different, it can be fun. Planners may have preconceived ideas about the roles, and it may be preventing them from advancing their careers or passions. This session will offer a frank discission about transitioning between both sectors and sharing lessons learned and experiences to help improve the decision-making and onboarding process for others.
