Municipalities play a central role in the housing system. CMHC’s $4B Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) challenged local governments to put forward ambitious applications to increase housing supply, improve housing diversity, and address affordability. This working session explores what municipalities felt were the most important and expeditious endeavours to introduce systemic changes. We will summarize the top 10 HAF Initiatives and outline the most common and creative initiatives from across Canada. Municipal HAF applicants will also provide their experiences with the program and discuss the evolution of planning at the local level. Join this conversation about the many aspects that impact local governments’ ability to affect change in the housing system.
