Understanding AI-Assisted Regulatory Workflows
CIP is pleased to offer our members free access to Understanding AI-Assisted Regulatory Workflows, a training course designed by Trax and supported by DIGITAL.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping how we work – but you don’t need to be a tech expert to understand and benefit from it. Whether you are new to AI or are already using it, this practical, hands-on course is designed to be a high-level introduction for professionals working with regulations, such as building officials, inspectors, planners, fire prevention officers and First Nations who want to explore what AI can (and can’t) do in their professional context.
Through case studies and guided activities, you’ll learn how to approach AI tools informed, critically, and responsibly. Along the way, you’ll gain the experience of effectively collaborating with an AI tool, through designing and refining effective ‘prompts’, AI-assisted permit reviews, and regulatory cross-checking. Learners will build a personalized plan for actionable use of AI in their professional context.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Articulate foundational knowledge of AI and its historical and current role in the building process and government.
- Analyze how AI can enhance capacity, distinguishing between AI-driven and human-required tasks.
- Evaluate AI tools for worthiness in workplace contexts, leveraging key criteria, trust indicators, and information on AI limitations.
- Apply relevant policies, frameworks, and cybersecurity principles to responsible use of AI tools in the workplace.
- Execute workplace-relevant tasks – permit review and regulatory cross-checking – using AI tools.
- Create a personalized action plan for ongoing learning, application, and knowledge sharing of AI in your workplace.
