April 23, 2024 – In Canada, UNESCO-designated biosphere reserves are largely referred to as biosphere regions (BRs). BRs represent unique ecosystems where conservation, sustainable development, and community engagement intersect and are hosted by over 50 municipalities and 50 Indigenous nations. BRs serve as invaluable resources for local municipal governments’ work in land use planning, environmental sustainability, sustainable economic development, and green space.

In this webinar, we delve into the relationship between BRs and municipal planning. We will feature case studies that highlight successful collaborations between BRs and municipal planners from across the country. Attendees will gain insights into innovative approaches to integrating conservation goals with urban and rural development priorities, fostering harmony between humans and the environment.

This webinar provides a unique opportunity to explore the potential of BRs as catalysts for sustainable development through planning at the local level. Join us to discover how these extraordinary landscapes can shape the future of our regions, creating a legacy of resilience and stewardship for generations to come.
