The Canadian Institute of Planners welcomes the recent federal announcement to launch consultations on reviving the post-war pre-approved housing design program. We applaud Minister Sean Fraser’s goal to expedite new home builds through labour and cost efficiencies while ensuring energy and environmental considerations are met. Canada’s urgent and complex housing situation requires creative solutions that provide a range of high-quality, affordable housing types and densities which consider culture and accessibility and have access to high-quality public services and amenities, such as public and active transportation.

Professional planners look forward to participating in the consultations and contributing innovative ideas and solutions. Our vision for inclusive and vibrant communities, respectfully connected to the natural world, and for the well-being of current and future generations, has never been stronger.
