Canadian Awards for Planning Excellence
Since 1983, CIP has been honouring outstanding planning projects for their excellence, innovation, and impact on the profession. Now, as we enter a new era, we’ve reimagined our awards program to reflect the evolving landscape of planning.
Over the past 40 years, the world around us has transformed, but our unwavering commitment to celebrating excellence in planning remains steadfast. The Canadian Awards for Planning Excellence will continue this tradition by recognizing submissions that showcase innovation, make a positive impact on the profession, and demonstrate implementation potential.
“On behalf of the Canadian Institute of Planners, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the 11 winners of this year’s Canadian Awards for Planning Excellence,” said Deborah Morrison, CEO of the Institute. “At a time when building resilient, inclusive, and forward-thinking communities is more critical than ever, these award-winning initiatives provide evidence and inspiration for both planners and the communities they serve for how we can work together to shape a better future for all Canadians.”
Ann McAfee RPP, FCIP and Neal LaMontagne RPP, MCIP, Chairs of the Canadian Awards for Planning Excellence Jury, also reflected on the high calibre of submissions: “This year’s winners illustrate the many ways planners shape the places we live, work, and play. Standing out among a highly competitive field of 22 finalists for their bold thinking, original approaches, and commitment to community impact. The Jury is proud to celebrate their work, which sets a high bar for the future of planning in Canada.”
The official awards presentation will take place at ACTION 2025, Canada’s largest planning conference hosted by CIP and the Ontario Professional Planners Institute in Toronto, on July 9, 2025.
