Ookwemin Minising, Toronto’s new island in the Port Lands, is planned to be a leading example of sustainability, inclusivity, and reconciliation. It is being designed with the ambition objectives of becoming Canada’s first climate-positive community, engaging in placemaking and naming opportunities Indigenous communities, as well as identifying community facilities and housing priorities, and targeting of 30% affordable housing to contribute to addressing the housing crisis.
